• Speakers to discuss legalities, management on Oct. 21 in Perryton
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Northeast Panhandle Beef Conference will focus on selling beef directly to the consumer. The event will be Oct. 21 at the Ochiltree County Expo Center, 402 Expo Drive in Perryton.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the program will start at 9 a.m. A $10 registration fee will be required at the door. Due to COVID 19, space is limited to the first 50 attendees, and lunch will not be provided.
“We have had a number of producers express interest in selling beef directly to the consumer because they are wanting to try to capture more of the value-added opportunities for their production,” said Scott Strawn, AgriLife Extension agent for Ochiltree County. “We hope this will get them on the right track to legally do this, while keeping cattle management in mind to continue to provide a quality product.”
Topics will include “Legal Requirements for Processing and Selling Beef Direct to the Consumer” and “Management of Cattle for Direct Beef Sales.” Tiffany Lashmet, AgriLife Extension agricultural law specialist, and Jason Smith, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist, both of Amarillo, will be the speakers for the event.
