An Amarillo man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on State Loop 335 one mile north of Amarillo on Christmas Eve.
According to Texas DPS, Donald Encinias III, 24, Amarillo, was traveling west on Loop 335 up a slight hill on the Western Street overpass in a 2005 Jeep Liberty at 5:35 p.m. on Thursday.
When he reached the overpass, the driver observed debris in his lane of travel. The driver swerved to the left to avoid the debris, but due the speed and sudden evasive action, he lost control of the vehicle.
The Jeep left the roadway and rolled over down the enbankment south of Loop 335 and the unsecured driver was ejected.
The Jeep came to a rest upside down on the entrance ramp to Loop 335.
Encinias was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Potter County Justice of the Peace.
The crash remains under investigation. Information may change, be corrected, or added based on the investigators findings.
