One killed in Wheeler County wreck Wednesday

An Oklahoma teen was killed Wednesday in Wheeler County one mile east of Briscoe.

A 2005 Ford Taurus, driven by Gavin Whitten, 20, Reydon, Okla. with Katelyn Freeman, 17, Cheyenne, Okla. was traveling eastbound on Farm-to-Mark 1046 in Wheeler County. 

A 2008 Ford F-250, driven by Dustin Bruner, 46, Perryton, with passenger Cesar Chavira, 42, Perryton, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 83. 

Texas DPS officials say driver of the Taurus disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 83 and FM 1046 when they collided with the Ford F250. 

Both vehicles came to a rest northeast of the intersection in the barrow ditch.

Freemman was Transported to Northwest Texas Hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later died from the injuries sustained in the crash. Pronounced deceased by Dr. Yohey Hashimoto. Whitten was also transported and remains at Northwest Texas Hospital in stable condition.

Bruner was treated and released at the scene while Chavira was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.  Information may change, be corrected, or added based on the investigators findings.
