Owl Aboard!

Posted

On April 21, I was warned to be careful walking my little dog because there was a big momma owl at City Hall and she had a baby to feed! I wasn’t overly concerned, since my dog always has her human (me!) with her when she’s out; plus the fact that downtown Pampa seems to have an endless supply of pigeons, which have to be easier hunting than dogs! It was hard to get a glimpse of them both, especially since one of them would often be behind that decorative limestone pillar! Thankfully, I was able to get a good photo of the baby on April 27, and right after that, s/he apparently learned to fly and maybe feed itself, because I haven’t see either of them there since then. Sometimes during our evening walk, momma would be hooting, and that was such an interesting sound….almost like she was letting us know she was there and this was HER spot??? Are owls territorial??? I was told that the dad owl, smaller than his mate, would visit on occasion, but I never got to see him. It was fun to watch a horned owl raise her little owl. I wish they had filed a Change of Address form so I knew where they were and could continue to follow the baby’s maturing process!
