The Pampa High School Band received their title as the “Pride” of Pampa at Friday nights home game.
The tradition of the “Pride’ title dates back to 1960 when the Pampa Band was invited to perform at the Midwest Band Competition in Chicago, IL. At the convention, the band received a 10 minute standing ovation for their performance and was acclaimed as “one of the best high school bands in the nation.”.
Traveling by train, the band was met at the train station by the Pampa community with a banner that stated, “Welcome Home- Pride of Pampa.” The band’s director, Mr. Tregoe, was presented with a trumpet on behalf of the Pampa Chamber of Commerce, and the banner still hangs in the band hall as a reminder of the event that began the tradition and title “The Pride of Pampa.”
The band is awarded this title by the band directors for the hard work, dedication, and outstanding attitude and performance of the band students as they prepare for marching competition in the Fall.
The “Pride” of Pampa Band received straight 1’s from all 3 judges on Saturday during UIL Marching Competition in Amarillo. This Division 1 rating advances the band to Area Competition on Nov 2 in Amarillo.
At Area, there will be prelim and finals performances. The number of bands that advance to finals is determined by the number of bands at Area. For every 5 bands at Area, 1 band will advance to the State competition.
The band is under the direction of Andrew Sedlacek, Katie Sedlacek, Daniel Stout, Heather Shackelford, and Haley Anderson.
Congratulations and good luck at Area!
