Pampa Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade goes twilight

The Pampa Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade will have a new look this year as the sun will be down during the event.

Pampa Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cortnie Allison Patterson said the community has been very excited for the evening event.

The parade is scheduled for Dec. 10 and will start at dusk, roughly around 6 to 6:15 p.m., and will take the traditional parade route, starting at M.K. Brown and heading south down Somerville.

All of the floats are required to have people walking along side them if candy will be thrown out.

“All of the floats will be required to have people walking along the four corners,” Patterson said. “Just to make sure the kids don’t get too close when trying to grab candy. They are allowed to throw candy as long as there are people walking along side from the floats.”

There are 30 floats signed up for the parade so far with the theme being “North Pole Lighted Fantasy.”

“They are encouraged to decorate their car in lights,” Patterson said. “We have a Ghostbusters car, one business has three hummers that will be decked out in lights and the majority of the people are coming in with floats.”

The Pampa High School Pride of Pampa band will lead the parade, which will be a little more slow-moving as it’s considered a “walking parade.”

The parade will disband on Cuyler Street near the Santa Fe depot where there will be a newly lighted Christmas tree from the Heritage and Cultural Center of the Texas Plains.

Later on in December, the Pampa Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Holly Jolly Christmas Craft Show in the “Mall area” of the Shops at Cornerstone, formerly the Pampa Mall, on Dec. 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Dec. 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Santa Claus will be there for pictures from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Dec. 18) and 1 to 3 p.m. (Dec. 19).

“There is not a cost to get in and we still have booths available for that,” Patterson said.

Patterson encourages shoppers to shop local this holiday season.
