Las Pampas Square will be gaining a new tenant later this summer as Pampa Furniture Exchange and Mattresses Too will move into the north side of the center located at 1203 N. Hobart.

Rick and Sarah Clemens have recently moved to the Pampa area and will be managing the business for their friends Shorty and Allison Hayes. Clemens knows Hayes from his time as an athletic retail manager with Footlocker.

“They started Amarillo Furniture Exchange in 2012,” Rick Clemens said. “They took over some stores in Clovis (N.M.) and Tulsa (Okla.) and became a part of the Furniture Exchange group and became licensees. They have since opened stores in Odessa, Hereford, Plainview and Shorty asked me to open up the furniture store here in Pampa.”

Pampa Furniture Exchange will have about a half a dozen different finance companies to go with their furniture lines including Ashley Furniture, Generation Trade, Corsicana Mattresses, Allied Mattress, LMT Rustic, Rustic Canyon, Caribbean Woodworks, Coaster Furniture, Nun Company and several more. The store hopes to open on Aug. 2, assuming they have 75 percent of their inventory.

Pampa Furniture Exchange will have seven on staff overseeing a 16,000-square-foot sales floor.

The Clemens’ recently spent two years in Scotland with 20Schemes Ministry running a discipleship home for men coming off of addiction. After their visas expired, they spent two more years on American soil in Kentucky working with 20Schemes. After taking last year off to hone his skills at competitive obstacle-course racing during the pandemic, Hayes called Clemens to the Texas Panhandle.

“Shorty knew I was back home and new that I was just training and doing personal training on the side,” Clemens said. “So he offered me this job.”

Clemens said he hopes to use his time in Pampa to do more than just run a furniture store.

“We believe the Lord has given us an opportunity to become woven into this community and to be a disciple to meet with some of the people blighted with drug addiction,” Clemens said. “The Lord has prepared us for that through our experience in Scotland. That’s what makes this whole thing more exciting for us.”

The Clemens’ are also excited about Las Pampas Square and to be a part of its revitalization.

“It’ll be exciting to help make Pampa great again,” Clemens said. “Seeing jobs be brought into the community and help this town look more appealing like [The Shops at Cornerstone]. But it’s more than just the physical change. We’re excited to see how the Lord uses us to get connected into the community.”

Clemens noted they will be full supporters of the local sports teams’, as well.

“As an athlete myself, Texas High School football is the thing,” Clemens said. “We’re proud to support the Pampa Harvesters on Friday nights. I cannot wait to see some of these Texas football games.”

Pampa Furniture Exchange’s motto is, “Committed to providing better products at the best value with the best financing in the Texas panhandle delivered with service that creates customers for life.”

The stores hours of operation will be 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They will be closed on Sundays.
