The Pampa Independent School District board of trustees met on Monday evening for a regularly-scheduled meeting.

The meeting was a rather routine but the Board did receive a presentation from Gary Brown of Brown, Graham and Company for the District’s annual audit.

“He (Brown) has conducted the annual audit for Pampa ISD for several years,” superintendent Tanya Larkin said. “He discussed the overall audit process and the District’s position at the end of the 2019 fiscal year. He also noted several new laws that impact the net position.”

Larkin said Brown stated overall the District is in better financial position with an increased fund balance.

The board approved the audit as well as the financial report, quarterly investment report and a budget amendement.

The next topic on the agenda was the Targeted Improvement Plan for Travis Elementary presented by Dr. Nathan Maxwell, associate superintendent for Pampa ISD.

“Each of our campuses goes through [a targeted improvement plan] each year,” Larkin said. “Byron May, Travis Elementary principal, and the Travis Elementary leadership team presented their published goals and the strategies they’re implementing this year to improve overall academic performance for all of the students on the campus.”

Most of the campus plans are improving compliance and documentation of the procedures the schools go through but last night the Board spent time discussing the academic goals for the schools.

“(The goals are) primarily K-2 literacy and serving our sub populations: English Language Learners and Special Education Students,” Larkin said.

During spotlight on excellence, not only did they recognize the District’s Principals for Principal Appreciation Month.

“We took the opportunity to celebrate the leaders on our campuses because they do a really great job,” Larkin said. “We also celebrated the Employees of the Month. That’s always the funnest part of the meeting.”

The Board also approved the following:

• Approve submission of Bilingual Exception and ESL Waiver  request for 2019-2020 to the Texas Education Agency

• Appoint PISD board member to serve on the PISD Safety and Security committee. New laws require the board president and one other board member serve on the committee. The Board decided to select Lance DeFever to serve on the committee along with Richard Qualls.

• Approve financial signature card. Todd Hubbert takes over as chief financial officer and this action reflects him being placed on the signature card.
