Pampa Pregnancy Support Center to host digital Walk for Life later this month via Facebook

The Pregnancy Support Center of Pampa will be hosting a virtual Walk for Life event later this month on April 29 from 5 to 7 p.m.

“Last year we had started into our fundraiser when the pandemic hit, so we were unable to do it,” Monica Galloway, director of Pampa’s Pregnancy Support Center, said. “We weren’t sure where we would be (with Covid protocols) at this time, so we weren’t sure where we would be socially. So we decided to do a virtual one.”

There will be four treadmills set up at Pregnancy Support Center and community leaders will walk in 20-minute intervals and talk about the Center while streamed live on the Center’s Facebook page.

“We will let them introduce themselves while they’re walking and why they are walking for the Center,” Galloway said. “It’ll be fun.”

Donations can be made through the website: www.pampapregnancycenter.com, texting “give” to 806-298-6112 or going to the link: https://secure.egsnetwork.com/donate/15BD2E827213414.

Donors can also make a pledge at the office number at 806-669-2229.

“We’re going to be taking donations while doing the live walk but people can sponsor a person walking,” Galloway said. “We’ve got four treadmills and seeing who can raise the most on their treadmill. Our goal is $20,000, overall.”

The walk is one of three fundraisers the Center holds. The baby bottle fundraiser is under-way in a smaller capacity and the banquet will hopefully be held in September. The Center is supported by these three fundraisers, and in part by grants.

The Center is affiliated with Care Net, a Pro-Life advocacy group who offers training, legal updates and news with centers across the nation.

Galloway said Pampa’s Center has 1,500 client visits a year including phone calls.

“We have probably 20 a week we see through parenting classes, ultrasounds, benevolence room (where they give away clothing/diapers/formula/baby food/etc),” Galloway said. “We also do pregnancy tests and follow up after they have the baby. We try to give them a new baby gift and let them know we are here for them.”

The Center also has the Hope House that aids young mothers and mothers-to-be in learning how to care for their child and get them started in their journey into motherhood. The Hope House is needing staffing and hasn’t been open since late last year.

The pandemic did present its fair share of challenges for the ladies of the Hope House.

“They had to learn to do grocery pick-up instead of going to buy groceries,” Galloway said. “They had to learn to fill their day when they are home because normally they are going to doctor’s appointments, doing Bible study, volunteering, cooking lessons, life skills and are in the midst of being taught and trained. But during the pandemic we were just at home and it was hard.”

The COVID-19 pandemic did shut down the Center for a time, but the ultrasound service is up and running.

“I’m glad our ultrasound program is up and running,” Galloway said. “It’s important for those moms to see those babies.”
