PAWS’ Barktoberfest scheduled for Oct.12

PAWS (Pampa Animal Welfare Society) will be celebrating their ninth year in Pampa with their annual shrimp boil at the MK Brown Civic Center from 6:30 until 8:30 pm on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Tickets are on sale for $30 each and are available at the Pampa Animal Shelter. The event will have all-you-can-eat shrimp, all-you-can-drink beer, wine and sodas.

“We also have brisket that is separate for people who can’t eat shrimp. We also have cake,” says Faustina Curry, director of PAWS. “Come eat and have a good time!”

Music will be by Roy Lotti, and there will be both a live and silent auction.

“We have some beef that we are going to auction off at the live auction, some hand-painted chairs, and some other items also,” said Curry.

“We have the shrimp boil to raise money for the PAWS group, and it mainly goes to medical expenses for shelter animals. Every animal that comes in gets vaccinated by PAWS, and if it needs medical care, we take it to the vet to get whatever it needs done so it is hopefully able to be adopted out or re-homed to a no-kill rescue in Colorado.

“Our vet bills run around $10,000 a month. We are all donation-based, and we are all volunteers. There is nobody in our group that gets paid,”

Barktoberfest and Panhandle Giving Day pay for almost all of these expenses outside of private donations.

PAWS is still looking for volunteers to help with Barktoberfest.

“We need people that will help serve food. We usually take animals up there and we need people that don’t mind sitting with the animals and taking them out to let people interact with them,” said Curry.
