Pedestrian struck by a vehicle outside of Lelia Lake Wednesday morning

A Lelia Lake man was killed outside of Lelia Lake city limits on Wednesday morning when he was struck by a truck-tractor.

According to Texas DPS, a 2020 Freightliner truck-tractor towing two semi-trailers was traveling south on U.S. Highway 287 about 200 feet northwest of Lelia Lake.

The truck moved from the outside lane to the inside due to an emergency vehicle on the outside shoulder.

A pedestrian was walking south in the inside lane. The driver of the truck did not see the pedestrian in the roadway until after he changed lanes and was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was identified as Clayton Shields, 28, Lelia Lake, and was pronounced deceased by Donley County Justice of the Peace, Pat White.

The crash remains under investigation. Information may change, be corrected, or added based on the investigators findings.
