Peggy Winegeart “Granny”, passed away, May 27, 2021 in Pampa at the age of 93.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Pat Aderholt, a deacon of First Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael- Whatley Funeral Directors.

Peggy will be available for viewing from 4:00- 8:00 PM on Saturday, 1:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, 8:00 AM- 12:00 PM on Monday, and 8:00 AM- 12:30 PM on Tuesday.

Peggy was born on July 1, 1927 to Will Kit and Merest (Foster) Bigham in Borger. She grew up and went to school in Lefors. She married Gene Owens in 1942. They had a son Gerrel Owens. She moved to Pampa in her early twenties. She later married Murl Winegeart. They adopted a baby girl, Tammie. Peggy helped with the farm and combining. She worked as carhop at Caldwell’s Drive Inn, as a waitress, as a salesperson in retail, as a hotel clerk, as a grocery cashier, and sitting with the elderly.

She loved playing Hand and Foot with her ladies’ card group. She always had jigsaw puzzles on her table to work on, and a Sudoku puzzle book by her chair. She did not mind asking visitors to her home for help- “While you’re here!”

Peggy was long time member of the First Baptist Church and attended the Parlor Class for many years. She was a life member of Easter Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by four brothers, Clarence, Tead, Gerrel, and L.C. Bigham; three sisters, Willie Mae McElroy, Wonnie Smith, and Faye Wilson; and by a daughter, Tammie Bennett.

Peggy is survived by her son, Gerrel Owens and wife Jerry of Pampa; five grandsons, David Owens of Pensacola, FL, Troy Owens and wife Holly of Corpus Christi, Casey Owens and wife Chanel of Corpus Christi, Clint Allen and wife Candi of Waco, and Cannon Allen of Lubbock; three granddaughters, Tonya Garza of Pampa, Amanda Bennett of Houston, and Natosha Douglas and husband Robert of Pampa; 15 great-grandchildren, Damiana Garza, Josh Wright and wife Christy, Anthony Allen, Aaron Allen, Hannah Owens, Kara Owens, Slade Allen, Zeth Allen, Brynn Allen, Kaedyn Owens, Kynslee Owens, Kason Owens, Cody Jones, Natalie Douglas, Autumn Douglas; five great-great grandchildren, a brother, Burly Bigham and wife Fern of Lubbock; a sister, Melba Holland of Conroe; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
