PHS Weekly Update

I admit I may be slightly partial, but I have to say we have one of the best staffs in the state. I’ve worked in 6A and 5A schools prior to joining Pampa, and I can safely say I have never worked on a campus that had a staff as fiercely devoted to its students as Pampa High School. Over the past two months, we have been blessed to have staff recognized by outside organizations. That trend continued this week as Nathaniel Council (PHS Speech and Debate) was named the National Speech and Debate Association Coach of the Year for the Tall Cotton District! This is a tremendous honor, and we are so proud of his program. This week we hosted Jeremy and Caleb Freeman who shared a motivational message about Caleb’s triumph after dealing with a traumatic brain injury over 5 years ago. It was a great experience for our students and even despite a couple of our student’s best efforts, Caleb was able to beat them in a “planking” competition. His spirit and outlook on life is definitely impressive and we appreciate them for sharing their journey with us. Our spring extracurricular programs are in full swing as we end the month of February. Harvester Baseball opened their season with a run rule victory over Lubbock Roosevelt on Monday night! The midweek wind created a unique hurdle as we scrambled to move several of our soccer games from Tuesday. The Lady Harvester Soccer team traveled to Randall for a district match up Thursday. The Lady Harvester Softball team traveled to San Angelo in the Concho Valley and went undefeated to win the tournament. They beat 5A/6A teams from DFW, San Angelo and Lubbock while going a perfect 4-0. The Harvester Soccer team made up their Tuesday match against Randall on Saturday and earned another district win to keep them in the contention for a district championship. Harvester Baseball won two games on Saturday over Childress and Littlefield to move to 3-0 on the season. Harvester Golf was in Lubbock and Harvester Tennis traveled to Levelland and played well after winning the Seminole tournament last week. Our PHS Art students displayed their skills at the Region 16 VASE Art Competition Saturday. Of our 16 competitors, 13 advanced to the area art competition. Last but certainly not least, out speech and debate students competed at their district meet over the weekend as well. It’s such an honor to get to share with you the successes of our youth. We’re so blessed by them on a daily basis. It’s a great day to be a Harvester!
