PHS Weekly Update

Posted

All good things eventually come to an end. Harvester Soccer fell in the Area round of the playoffs this week to a very talented El Paso Irvin squad. This season was a great experience for our players, coaches, and community and they made us proud throughout the season. It’s a new week, and we’ve got some new awards! Congratulations to Berlin Bartlett for being named to the Press Pass Sports 2023 Girls Basketball Team. This honorary team is comprised of players from all Panhandle schools from 1A to 6A to be represented is such an awesome award. Harvester Soccer was well-represented in All-District accolades. Justin Martinez was named Player of the Year and Offensive MVP for the district. Samael Munoz, Diego Jerez, and Ever Martinez were named 1st Team All-District. Alex Rios, Luis Montelongo, and Jaunito Gamez were named as 2nd Team All-District. Aaron Diaz and Edgar Saavedra were named as Honorable Mention All-District. Way to go guys! PHS Ag student Nicky Price finished in 2nd place for 4-H Meat Judging and qualified for State! In our academic world, we had six of our upper-level Spanish students challenge the CLEP exam and all six walked away with scores high enough to earn them eight college hours (forty-eight earned hours collectively)! Not bad for an hour and a half of work. Tuesday night was a big night for both Harvester Baseball and Lady Harvester Softball. Both teams hosted gritty Dumas squads and both teams scored huge late-inning come-from-behind victories! The best part of all was seeing the smiles on our athletes’ faces and a few gray hairs on our coaches from the late-inning theatrics. The end of the week was complicated by the wind but even the wind did little to dampen our spirits as Lady Harvester Softball beat West Plains to complete the season sweep, Harvester Baseball hosted West Plains and came out with a huge victory, Harvester Track traveled to WTAMU and had several athletes record personal bests, and Harvester Tennis competed with PRIDE in Amarillo. I can’t believe April is here. It won’t be long until we are celebrating the graduating class of 2023, but in the meantime, we still have much to accomplish and celebrations to be had. We’re so blessed to be in Pampa, Texas! It’s a great day to be a Harvester!
