Phyllis Sue Meeks, 80, of Pampa, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 in Sturgis, Michigan.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery with Penny Harvey, Interim Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Phyllis was born February 15, 1943 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Roy and Mary Holder. She graduated from Pampa High School in the class of 1962. Soon after high school, she married James Meeks on August 2, 1962 in Pampa. He passed away on May 10, 1999. Phyllis lived most of her life in Pampa. She worked for several years at Kmart before becoming a CNA. Phyllis worked as a CNA for Shepherd’s Crook for almost 15 years before she had to stop to take care of James in 1998. She attended First Baptist Church for many years. Anyone who knew Phyllis, knew you could always count on her having coffee and a cigarette in hand. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, driving around town in her little red car, and baking pecan pies. She loved her family and loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Joyce Qualls, Rose Mary Richardson, and Faye Lusby; a brother, Roy Oliver Holder, Jr.; three son-in-laws, Brian Hoyt, Thomas Carpenter, and Scott Parks; and a great grandson, Cade Alexander Parks.

Survivors include three daughters, Tammey Hoyt of Portland, Texas, Phyllis Hargett and husband Victor of Sturgis, Michigan, and Jamie Carpenter of Pampa; brother, Elmer Holder of Pampa; sister-in-law, Dorothy Holder of San Diego, California; five grandchildren, Suzanne Groff and husband Kevin, Nikki Daughtry and husband Latham, Kayce Jones and husband Tristan, Lindsey Carpenter, and Thomas Carpenter; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
