The Pampa Independent School District Board of Trustees met on Monday evening for a regularly-scheduled meeting.

The agenda was a fairly light one, but Board President Matt Brock said there was a public comment concerning the libraries.

“She (the commenter) had heard we were closing the libraries but we’re not,” Brock said. “We are going to utilize them through the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) program. We’re going to be utilizing them more and allow the kids to check out books more than they probably used to.”

Moving into the consent agenda, an item concerning additional fundraisers was pulled out for further clarification.

“Coach [Cody Robinson, Athletic Director] has some physical education equipment we’re planning to get as his program gets going from the elementary schools through high school,” Brock said. “This will get them caught up to where he needs them to be.”

These fundraisers will entail selling t-shirts and other merchandise. The rest of the consent agenda was passed.

The Board also re-approved the local policy regarding compensation and benefits as it relates to Covid leave.

“It expired at the end of the year,” Brock said. “It allows our employees not to have to use their personal and sick days. I think they get five of each and if you get Covid it could wipe out all 10 of those days and they wouldn’t have anything left. Last year, we implemented a policy that allowed for so many days, so they wouldn’t have to use those (personal/sick) days if it was Covid-related.”

The Board approved the following items:

Consent agenda

• Monthly financial reports

• Board meeting minutes: July 26, 2021, August 10, 2021, and Aug. 11, 2021

• Purchase of Mentoring Minds Think Up! with iReady on-line program
