Ralph Reid, Sr.

Posted

Ralph Reid, Sr., 95 years old, of Pampa, joined his beloved wife in God’s eternal grace in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 3, 2021 in Pampa.  He was born on August 25, 1925 to Reese and Vera Reid in Atoka, Oklahoma.

At the age of 17, Ralph married the love of his life, Betty Jean Anderson, then shortly afterwards enlisted into the United States Navy.  He proudly served during World War II from 1943 until 1946.   Being a successful car and insurance salesman was a natural task for Ralph as he was such a people person and could converse with anyone easily; however, his true loyalty was with his Kem Weed Control business.  As owner and operator, He and his family covered five states allowing him to travel quite frequently.  It was during these many road trips that he was able to discover “hidden” pie places all over.  He loved pie and so he knew where to find the best!   Although his work took him away from the family much of the time, he was somehow always there when his family needed him.  Ralph was an extraordinarily strong and courageous man, even in his older years he maintained a good firm handshake – after all, a firm handshake was a man’s word and bond!

The fresh, crisp, clean air of the outdoors on a golf course or especially in the mountains, were just a couple of the things Ralph was truly fond of, but his family always came first.  He loved to spoil his kids and grandchildren.  He was a very jolly man full of laughter and quite the jokester most of the time, but his heart was full of love and compassion as he would give the shirt off his back to help someone who needed it more.  Ralph has left a rather large footprint on this world as well as on the hearts of those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Betty Jean Reid; parents; two sons, Jeffery Steven Reid, Ralph Reid, Jr.; two brothers, Vernon Reid and RV Reid.

Those whom he has left to carry on his legacy are his two sons, Vincent Reid and wife Susan of Enid, OK, Jeffery Reid and wife Ashley of Enid, OK; a daughter, Ginger Duncan and husband Joe of Pampa; seven grandchildren, Bo Reid and wife Teresa of Enid, Tammy Reid of Oklahoma City, Amanda Copeland and husband Ed of Pampa, Curt Duncan and wife Mindy of Mobeetie, Alana Etchison and husband Larry of Pampa, Amber Drennan and husband Jimi of Edmond, OK, Clint Shankle and wife Jaci of Norman, Ok; 23 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Jan Reid of Norman, OK.

For those of you who would like to pay your respects to Ralph, he will be available for viewing on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 4 until 8pm and again Friday, from 9 until 8pm at Winegeart Funeral Home.
