Amid of the Track & Field State Competition, Pampa High School sophomore, Emma Searl, is ready to represent her community in the shot put category.

Having been on the PHS track and field team since her freshman year, this is Searl’s first year heading to state.

“I was so close to going last year,” Searl said. “When I found out that I was going to state this year, I bawled for an hour.”

Outside of the school setting, Searl participates in the Endeavor Games during the summer. Hosted in Edmond, OK, and Fort Wayne, IN, the Endeavor Games exists to create equitable access to sports competitions for individuals with physical disabilities.

“I do the 100m, 200m, and 400m track and field events,” Searl said. “ I also do shot put, javelin, and indoor and outdoor archery events.”

As for her state competition, Searl is eager to get out on the field and play.

“I’m a little nervous but I will be fine,” Searl said.

Searl offers her advice to students who are looking to participate in track and field.

“You gotta have good sportsmanship and good grades,” Searl said. “Even if it seems hard, you can still do it.”

Searl expresses her appreciation for all the support she’s received.

“I want to thank my parents, my grandma, my sisters, my cousins, my aunts and uncles, and coach,” Searl said.
