Reed Nabs 100th Career K in Final Game as a Harvester

Posted

Pampa hosted the Randall Raiders in the final home game and final game of the regular season on Saturday. The game was moved from Friday due to rain in the area. The Raiders defeated Pampa 12-2 via run-rule in five innings. With Hereford taking care of Borger, also on Saturday, Pampa was now eliminated from the playoffs. Pampa’s final record was 12-15 and 7-7 in District play.

From the mound, the biggest highlight came early in the game as senior Tyler Reed recorded his 100th career strikeout as a Pampa Harvester. Reed will now prepare to head to Southern Nazarene University, where he signed to play college baseball. Another highlight from the mound was sophomore Isaiah Anguiano ending his season on a high note with one inning of no hits, no runs and a strikeout on the mound.

The highlights for Pampa from the offensive side of things were hits by senior Michael Campos, freshmen Max Neff and Boston Botello, and a bunt single by senior Huston Skinner. Botello also recorded a stolen base and one of the two Harvester runs. Junior Zanden Salazar had the other Harvester run. The lone RBI was compiled by Campos. Reed had a walk for Pampa.

It was a great season for the Harvesters despite not making the playoffs. A big reason for missing the playoffs was the massive district. One could argue District 4-4A is one of the toughest in the state. Randall is #3 in the current state rankings. Canyon is #14. Hereford and West Plains are just as tough as those two schools as well.

Head Coach Austin Samulowitz took some time to reflect on the season:

“Looking back on the season, I am extremely proud of how our athletes fought. Coming into this season we had to replace 10 seniors from last year’s playoff team. We knew we were going to be young but that didn’t scare us because we knew we had talent coming up. Our 3 seniors that we had coming back did a great job for us. Tyler Reed threw a ton of innings, Michael Campos caught every pitch behind the plate this year and Huston Skinner played almost every game at shortstop for us. We will definitely miss those seniors,” Samulowitz said. “I look forward to next season while we bring back 7 starters and we will be working in the offseason to get back in the playoff hunt. I want to thank both my assistant coaches, Reid Bradley and Clint Watson for sacrificing their spring to help our program improve. Also want to thank Zach Green for running our video broadcast system and our stats/scouting reports, I couldn’t do it without those guys!”

Personally, I would like to thank head coach Austin Samulowitz for letting me tag along for another season of Harvester baseball. Thank you to Jamison Hanock and Ben Campbell for bringing the radio call this season. Thank you to everyone involved in the home games via the press box, ticket booth, concession stand, etc. Thank you to the booster club for all their hard work. Thank you to all the parents for coming out to the games as well as the fans!

Pampa was able to get loads of experience for a young ballclub. The Harvesters will hope to build on this over the offseason and into next year. We will be back around January or February 2024 for a season preview next season!

Until next year, so long everyone!
