Reindeer and Santa at Celebration of Lights this weekend

Posted

There will be some special visitors at the Celebration of Lights this weekend! On Friday, Dec. 18 there will be live reindeer at the park. This has become an annual event sponsored by Rhoades Ranch. This is the biggest night at the lights display as visitors come from all over to get glimpse of an actual reindeer. The entry poles at the park will be blocked off until 6:00 pm. This will give the reindeer handlers time to set up pens and their displays. Please be patient as we will open up the park right at 6 p.m. The reindeer will be on display until 9 p.m. The lights display will be open until 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 19 Santa will make his annual appearance at the park. Santa will be set up in a tent with a photo back drop for photos with Santa. Santa will make his appearance beginning at 6:30 pm. Get those wish lists and smiles ready!

Please in both events be respectful of the Covid situation and follow guidelines set to protect you and your family. We ask that you stay in your family groups and social distance from others. Also please wear a mask at all times.

The Celebration of Lights is a huge drive through Christmas lights display set up at Recreation Park in Pampa, Tx. Put on by the City of Pampa. This year the park features a brand new state of the art animated Christmas tree. Upon entering the park turn your radios to 92.5 FM and Christmas music will play in your car. The animated tree has roughly a 30-minute show to sit and watch from your vehicle. Also new to the park this year is a brand new nativity story set to the famous song “Mary Did You Know.” Upon entering the park the greeters will point out to you where to park to view each of the shows. To view the nativity story you will need to turn your radio to 91.5 FM. This is just one song show. If you pull up in the middle of the show it will just loop back and start right over. This show is roughly five minutes. Turn your radios back to 92.5 and enjoy the sounds of the holidays and you take the drive around the park.

Another new area inside the park is by the sand volleyball court/basketball court. Visitors are encouraged to park their cars and get out and walk the walking trail. On the trail is our previous animated tree with Christmas music playing with several photo opportunities (a sleigh large enough for a family, face cut outs, Christmas lights backdrops, a Greetings from Pampa, Tx frame).

Also every weekend (weather permitting) there are sleigh rides around the park. The sleigh rides are limited to 15 riders per trip.

Travelers come from all over the Texas panhandle to view this Christmas lights display. This display and all events at the park at always FREE! The park is 100% funded by donations. Each dollar collected goes directly into next years display. As you exit the park the volunteers will collect donations if you feel inclined to do so. Pampa citizens may also donate by contacting the water department and getting a $1 monthly donation added to their water bill.
