Rev. David House and Church of the Nazarene to host car show fundraiser Oct. 16

The Church of the Nazarene will be hosting a car show fundraiser on Oct. 16 to welcome worshipers back to church.

Reverend David House, who is from Valleyview Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo, has been preaching full-time for about a year and joined the Church of the Nazarene last year.

“Pampa’s Church of the Nazarene is the first church I’ve been at,” House said. “I went over there as a interim pastor and that’s where God wants me. There’s things about our doctrine I like.

“They are good people, we like to eat, which is good. One of the things we like is that we are a holiness and healing church. There’s a lot of things that fall in line with what I believe. It all fits for me.”

House owns an auto-shop and works with antique cars. But House came to God after going bankrupt and realizing he wasn’t doing things for God.

“I was doing things for me, not for God,” House said. “I ended up in a spot that was very dark and finally turned back to God. The decision was made that if he would fix me and heal me, I would be a servant for him. God takes people, like the Apostle Paul, who have lots of history and takes those people and uses them to help others.”

House’s role in ministry started in food pantries and it only grew from there.

“It was then that he opened my eyes and I just saw brokenness everywhere,” House said. “Most of the time we can fix a lot of that brokenness just by leading someone to God.”

Just like many other small churches, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on the Church of the Nazarene.

“People left and got comfortable not coming to church,” House said. “(With this fundraiser) We are hoping to rebuild the baptistery and also raise awareness that we are here and get people to come back to church.”

On Sundays, the Church of the Nazarene has Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and service at 10:45 a.m. They have Wednesday evening Bible study at 7 p.m.

House is married to his wife, Davena, and the pair have four children and nine grandchildren.
