Robert L. “Bob” Young, 91, of Pampa left this earthly life for his heavenly home on Monday, October 11, 2021.

Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 15, 2021 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor, officiating and Joe Mabry, assisting. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Young’s service will be livestreamed thru the funeral home’s website.

Mr. Young was born on January 9, 1930 in Gould, Oklahoma to Eathel Louise Arnold Young and William Medford Young. He married his lifelong sweetheart, Doris Helen Coble on December 21, 1950, in a twilight service in a small country church in Harmon County, Oklahoma. Bob was saved by Jesus Christ and baptized in that same church a few months earlier.

Immediately after marriage, Bob was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Bob started his career with the City of Pampa Fire Department on January 1, 1953. He served the people of Pampa for 36 years, retiring in 1989 as Fire Chief.

As most firemen had a second job in those days, he had several second jobs, one was building homes for the people of Pampa and the surrounding area. As everyone who knew him will attest, as God had designed, Robert loved work, hard work, whatever kind of work, he was the happiest when he was working.

After he retired from the Fire Department, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling in their RV with his wife beside him. They traveled to the Rio Grande Valley in the winter, and to Canton Lake in the Spring and Fall of each year. On these trips they met many other couples who they grew to love and camped with for many years. Bob loved playing golf and played with the seniors at Hidden Hills until his eyesight prevented it. Most importantly he loved the Lord, his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and his two great-great-grandchildren. God richly blessed him with lots of heirs and children to love.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth Young of Fort Worth, and William Young of Boulder City, Nevada; one sister, Esta Faye LaBarr of Pampa; one granddaughter, Lauren Annette Young; one step-grandson Tyler Hucks; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Reeves, and Cambri Jade Jenkins.

Bob is survived by his wife of almost 71 years, Doris of the home; two daughters, Melinda Ann Jenkins, and Belinda Jan Hucks and husband Kevin, all of Pampa; one son, David Michael Young and wife Linda of Donna, TX; six grandchildren, Justin Young and wife Kasha, Jeffrey Jenkins and wife April, Cody Jenkins and wife Roxanne, all of Amarillo, Andrea Greigo of Macomb, Illinois, Misty French of McKinney and Julie Arbeau and husband Donnie of Mulberry, Florida; two step grandchildren, Hunter Hucks of Pampa and Heather Fuller and husband Tell of Amarillo; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church P.O. Box 621 Pampa, TX 79066 or Calvary Baptist Church 900 E. 23rd Ave., Pampa, TX 79065.
