Scott added to AgriLife Extension agents in Ochiltree County

PERRYTON - Sterling Scott is no stranger to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service as the son of two longtime agents, and he is moving into new territory as the assistant agriculture and natural resources agent in Ochiltree County.

Scott began Dec. 9, joining Scott Strawn, agriculture and natural resources agent, and McKayla Centa, family and community health agent in the AgriLife Extension office in Perryton.

Scott is the son of Robert Scott, agent in Lubbock County, and Wendy Scott, 4-H youth specialist for District 2 in the South Plains, so he said he knows firsthand how the program works and what it has to offer. He raised sheep and goats as a 4-Her in Lubbock County.

“I really thought I might want to get away from it when I graduated, but it drew me back in,” Sterling Scott said. “I just wanted to work with the kids and pass on to them what I’ve learned.”

Scott earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from Texas Tech University.

“Sterling is a great hire for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service,” said Brandon Dukes, AgriLife Extension district administrator. “He comes to us with an excellent understanding of the agency’s mission and goals. Sterling is an excellent communicator and will serve the citizens of Ochiltree County well while he gains more knowledge in production agriculture from Scott Strawn.”

Scott said he looks forward to getting hands-on experience, especially in the agricultural field, so he will be prepared to one day work as the agriculture and natural resources agent in a county of his own.
