After six months working with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Ochiltree County, Sterling Scott has been hired as the agriculture and natural resources agent in Roberts County, beginning July 1.
Scott began Dec. 9 in Ochiltree County as an assistant agriculture and natural resources agent, but it wasn’t his first introduction to the agency. His parents are Robert Scott, an agriculture and natural resources agent in Lubbock County, and Wendy Scott, 4-H youth specialist for District 2 in the South Plains, so he has seen all sides of the program.
“Sterling came to us with an excellent understanding of the agency’s mission and goals, and his time in Ochiltree County has only built on that,” said Brandon Dukes, AgriLife Extension district administrator.
Scott said it has been helpful to get hands-on experience, especially in the agricultural field, while in Ochiltree County where he worked alongside AgriLife Extension agent Scott Strawn. It has helped prepare him to work as the agriculture and natural resources agent in a county of his own.
“Working with Scott Strawn has taught me just how important it is to have a good relationship with not only the 4-Hers, their parents and the agriculture producers, but also to have a good relationship with the community,” Scott said. “I look forward to working with everyone in Roberts County.”
Scott earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from Texas Tech University.
