A Shamrock man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning outside of Conway.

A 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up, driven by Jesus Garcia, Jr., 66, Shamrock, was driving west on Interstate 40 two miles west of Conway during a period of falling snow.

A 2019 Freightliner truck, driven by Eldred Page, 37, Northport, Ala., was traveling at an unsafe speed for the conditions of the roadway and lost control of the vehicle.

The truck slid sideways off of the roadway and entered the center median and continued to slide sideways across the median and onto the eastbound lanes in the path of the Dodge Ram.

Page attempted avoid colliding with Dodge by applying emegency braking, but was too close to take any effective evasive action.

The Freightliner struck the Dodge on the right side, forcing it to spin around and come to a rest upright against a guard rail on the south edge of the roadway, facing east. The Freightliner traveled into the center median where it collided with the cable fence barrier and came to final rest a short distance further, facing east.

The crash remains under investigation. Information may change, be corrected, or added based on the investigator’s findings.
