4-H is ready to kick-off the spring projects in the new year! It is not too late join 4-H members for an adventure!
4-H is the youth development program of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. It focuses on the needs, concerns, and interests of young people. Through planned individual projects, meetings, group activities and participation in different events, members develop new skills, learn cooperation, develop leadership abilities, improve their citizenship, and have fun. Young people from all ethnic or cultural groups, regardless of geographic location are welcome to participate. Age groups generally range from 3rd to 12th grade. Gray County Extension also has a special program for K-2nd graders.
Youth participate in 4-H programs through 4-H clubs, project meetings, and planned activities. Members are guided by Extension staff or trained volunteers. Youth participation is the key to 4-H. The learning-by-doing model of education works best when young people are fully involved. The greater the involvement, the greater the educational benefit.
Many types of activities and projects are available to 4-H members. 4-H members are encouraged to complete at least one 4-H project every year; as well as participate in their club, community service activities, and leadership activities.
This spring, Gray County 4-H will be offering projects and activities in Agriculture and Livestock (Livestock Judging; Horse); Family and Community Health (Fashion & Interior Design; Science and Technology (Photography and Robotics); Leadership (Public Speaking); Shooting Sports (Archery and Shot Gun) and a new project Meat Science.
