Back-to-school is almost here and the biggest shopping weekend to prepare is Aug. 5-6 for Tax-Free Weekend.

Sweet T’s, 211 N. Cuyler, and Shabby Creek, 209 N. Cuyler, in Downtown Pampa are teaming up to help Pampans prepare for back-to-school by holding specials on that weekend.

“We are hoping to get people to shop Pampa first for Tax-Free Weekend and back to school,” Sweet T’s owner Tiffany Kimmel said. “We’re basically doing this to help teachers, students, etc. We are going to be doing a school supply drive also.”

Shoppers who bring unopened school supplies will receive a coupon to use at Sweet T’s or Shabby Creek. School supplies will then be donated to Pampa Independent School District.

Stacy Helms opened Shabby Creek 10 years ago and Kimmel opened Sweet T’s in 2019.

“She moved right next door to me which is great for this block,” Helms said. “We work good together, so we try to plan events to bring people downtown. Even after being open 10 years people don’t know that we’re down here.”

The pair hold “Late Last Thursday” sip and shop events where the last Thursday of the month they stay open until 8 p.m.

Shabby Creek carries women’s clothes, shoes, jewelry, baby clothes and home decor. Sweet T’s carries women’s clothes, shoes and jewelry.

“We want to work together to bring people to downtown Pampa,” Helms said. “Instead of going to Amarillo to shop, hopefully they can find what they need here.”

Both businesses carry Judy Blue. Sweet T’s has Intro, Umgee Consuela handbags, Vintage Havana shoes and Savannah Jane. Shabby Creek carries Texas True Threads, Gypsy Jazz and American Darling handbags.

A drawing will be held at both stores and on Facebook where shoppers can vote for the “best teacher” and there will be a goody bag from each business given to the names drawn.

All school employees, not just teachers, will receive a 10 percent discount both days (with school ID).

Both businesses will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5 and Saturday, Aug. 6. Simply Bare Food Truck will also be on-site serving lunch.
