Caynden Mynear, a freshman at White Deer High School, is ready to show off his athletic skills at the 2023 Track & Field State Meet on May 13th.

Mynear is the sole athlete from his school to make it to state qualifiers this year.

Quite the force to be reckoned with, Mynear has a history of going the distance in track. While in the eighth grade, he was nearly able to beat the track state time.

Mynear reminisced about first joining the sport.

“Ever since I’ve been able to do it, I’ve been in track,” Mynear said.

Despite setbacks such as injuring his hamstring at the beginning of the season, Mynear showed no signs of stopping.

“At the time, I was really worried because track is one of the main sports that I love to do. I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to run to my full potential,” Mynear said. “However, I’m happy I was able to make it this far.”

Though the competition is approaching fast, Mynear is eager to tackle this challenge.

“I’m excited about it and I’m ready to support my school,” Mynear said.

Although the school year is nearly finished, Mynear has big dreams for his future.

“When it comes to college, truthfully, I would go to any school that is willing to have me,” Mynear said. “That being said, my two main choices are Texas Tech University and the University of Arkansas.”

Mynear expressed his appreciation for all those who have supported him throughout his first year of high school track.

“I’d like to thank all three of my coaches, Coach Rucker, Marler, and Dunham,” Mynear said. “ I’d also like to thank my dad for pushing me all those years back when I was first starting.”
