About 20 volunteers from area churches helped to pass out food for the Salvation Army on Friday morning. The effort was a part of a disaster relief partnership the Top O’ Texas Baptist Association has with Salvation Army. “The Top O’ Texas Baptist Association do disaster relief together through the Southern Baptist Church,” Zack Greer, Missions and Administration at First Baptist Church. “We have a lot of Baptist Churches here. We partner with Salvation Army in disaster relief work when there are hurricanes and things like that.” David Moore, Social Services Administrator at Salvation Army, said by 9 a.m. on Friday morning more than 100 area residents had received food. The relief effort is in response to February’s winter storms that caused plumbing issues and high utility bills for area residents. “This is relief for the snow and ice storms we had when a lot of people’s pipe’s froze,” Moore said. “They had to call plumbers and were out of food. So we called in a semi-load to help with that.”
