Tralee Crisis Center’s 'More Bang for your Buck' fundraiser

Tralee Crisis Center volunteers will be going door to door asking for $1 donations on Saturday, Nov. 30.

“It’s a fundraiser that we are going to do that’s in association with #ThePanhandleGives,” said Dee Dee Laramore, executive director of Tralee Crisis Center.

“The people behind it (#ThePanhandleGives) are the Amarillo Area Foundation. Local non-profits from all over the Panhandle are involved in it. It’s a very intense short-term fundraiser. It begins at 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 25 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 3.”

#ThePanhandle Gives has established an “Amplification Fund” as a percentage match of money raised by local non-profits such as Tralee Crisis Center, Salvation Army, PAWS and more.

Because they do not know how much will be raised in total, and because the Amplification Fund can grow until the end of the campaign, match percentages are undetermined at this time.

“It’s mostly social media driven,” explained Laramore. “We’ve been working on it since last summer. We set up a special Facebook page, and it’s not going to be live until Nov. 25. at 12:01 a.m.”

“The page will be called #ThePanhandleGives, and we (Tralee Crisis Center) will have our own page. It’s a click-type secure donation that will go directly to us.”

As part of their fundraising efforts Tralee will be doing “More Bang for your Buck,” where volunteers will knock on doors and ask for $1 donations from each household, although you may donate more if you would like.

“All we are asking for is $1. Those (donations) will be amplified by #ThePanhandleGives Fund,” said Laramore.

“We set our goal at $8,435 dollars. It’s a real weird term, but it means something to us. We began in 1984, and this is our 35th year, so that’s why we set that amount. We are hoping we can reach that goal.”

“It’s fun and exciting. This will be our first year to take part in it (#ThePanhandleGives).”

Any donations received by Tralee Crisis Center between Nov. 25 and Dec. 3 that are made out to #ThePanhandleGives will be eligible for amplification.
