Wiskey Grills to hold cook-off Saturday

Posted

The first official day of Spring was on Sunday and that means we are one step closer to summer when grilling season really heats up.

Customers at Wiskey Grills won’t have to wait until summer, however, as the local business will be hosting the 4X4 Grillin with Whiskey Challenge Saturday at 11 a.m.

The 4x4 part of the challenge means the teams must use grills/smokers no larger than 4x4 to better resemble a backyard cookout.

“There are six teams with three different meats (chicken, ribs, steak) and they have to use whiskey in the recipe,” Wiskey Grills owner Rich Wiskey said. “The judges must be able to discern the taste of the whiskey.”

There will be four local teams and a team from Canadian and Canyon each.

The competition, while not a public taste test, will be held at Wiskey Grills’ location at 1421 N. Hobart in their back patio.

The judges will be Mayor Lance DeFever, Cam Day (head judge, owner of Elk Creek Seasonings) from Elk City and Christy White (owner of the Roost in Shamrock).

Wiskey noted there will be sales on both grills and products during the competition.

Wiskey Grills also joins several downtown businesses as they stay open later on Thursdays. On every fourth Thursday at 6 p.m., Grillin’ with Wiskey is held and led by instructor Chad Epperson, owner of Roll the Dice BBQ.

“He’s going to keep it to BBQ dishes,” Wiskey said. “Class No. 1 will be how to pair the seasoning with the meet you are preparing.”

Classes are $20/person and will be held at Wiskey Grills and limited to six people.
