Betty Jean Haines

Betty Jean Haines, 90, of Pampa, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, in McLean.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Erickson, pastor, officiating. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Betty was born on August 25, 1932, in Wheeler County, Texas to Nettie May and Curtis Lancaster. She attended school in Mobeetie, and later attended West Texas State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in education. Betty immediately put her degree to use, beginning her teaching career at Baker Elementary. There, she taught the Head Start program. Several years later, she took a teaching position at Lamar Elementary and was there until she resigned to enjoy other parts of life.

In January of 1954, Betty met the love of her life, Bob Haines. They dated for three months before getting married on April 30, 1954. The couple loved to do everything together. They made several trips to Pennsylvania through the years to visit Bob’s family. They rode motorcycles and camped often. Betty also enjoyed quilting, sewing, and gardening. Betty was loved deeply by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Sidney Lynch.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Haines of the home; three children, Dianna Lemke and husband Gary of Perryton, James Haines and wife Brenda of Pampa, and Deanna Peeks and husband Scott of Dallas, Georgia; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ines Loveday, Ora Swarts, and Laura Watson; three brothers, Aaron Lancaster, Nathan Lancaster, and Garland Lancaster; and numerous other extended family members.

The family would like to thank the kind staff of the McLean Care Center for taking such great care of Betty the last two years.
