Charles Curtis Smith

Charles Curtis Smith, of Newton, went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 73.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16th at 1PM at First United Methodist Church located at 701 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Roy and Maxine Smith, and his sister, Carol Peet.

Charles also known as “Chuck” is survived by his daughter, Sarah Terry and husband Houston of Houston and his son, Curtis Smith and wife Vanessa Fuentes of Austin, and three grandchildren, Caroline, Hudson, and William Terry; one sister, Linda Risley and husband David of Pampa; three brothers, Randy Smith and wife Cynthia of St. Petersburg, Florida, Kirk Smith and wife Vonda of Frederick, Colorado, Sky Smith and wife Tamera of Hillsdale, Kansas, brother in law, Richard Peet of Pampa, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles was born November 30th, 1949 in Garden City, Kansas. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1967, and attended St. John’s College, West Texas State University, and Lamar University. He worked for IDECO, div of Dresser Rand, Trinity Industries, and Metalforms Ltd. Charles lived in Beaumont for more than 30 years where he raised his children and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Beaumont.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, being outdoors, playing soccer in his earlier years and passing on the love of the sport to his children. He was a tinkerer and a person who enjoyed repairing and fixing things around the house. In his later retirement years, he enjoyed working on his land in Newton, Texas and being outdoors with nature.
