Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Lewis of Pampa celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on September 3, 2023. The family of the Lewises hosted the event which included a Reception at the St. Paul United Methodist Church of Pampa and family dinners on Saturday and Sunday. Daughter Tonya Lewis coordinated the events.
Dalton Lewis and Omajean Trainer were married Sept. 5, 1953 in the First Baptist Church of Borger with the Rev. Dr. Winfred Moore officiating. Dalton and Omajean honeymooned in Colorado Springs, CO. The Lewises have been Pampa residents for 58 years and are members of the St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Dalton is a fourth-generation rancher whose paternal grandfather T.D. Lewis came to Hutchinson County in 1880 and his maternal great-grandfather P.E. Riemer arrived in Gray County in 1890. Maternal grandfather John Gores came to the Texas Panhandle in 1893. Dalton grew up in Phillips with his parents Katherine and S.L. Lewis and brother Stan and sister Delores. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1953.
Omajean moved near Dumas to a ranch with her parents Nellie and Basil Trainer and sister Gladys in 1935 from Camargo, Oklahoma where her parents had farmed. They later moved to Philview Camp outside of Borger where Omajean graduated from Borger high school in 1953.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis lived in Borger; Kingman, Kansas; and Houston before moving to Pampa in 1965. Mr. Lewis was employed by Phillips Refinery and Phillips Pipeline Company from 1955 to 1960. He worked in Houston for Ashland Chemical Co. in the Research and Development Department from 1960 to 1965. He was with Cabot, Ingersoll Rand, and IRI International for 32 years in the Industrial Engineering Department where he retired in 1997 as Manager of Industrial Engineering and CAM Manager.
Mr. Lewis was a past member of the Board of Directors of Cabot and IRI Employees Credit Union for 12 years where he served as secretary. He was a member and Past President of the PEDC Board of Directors, Vice-President of ACCORD Inc., and Past President of Gray County Genealogical Society. He has served on the White Deer Land Museum Foundation Board.
Mrs. Lewis is an artist, photographer, and author. She was Pampa Fine Arts Association Artist of the Year in 2012. In 2015 her book of original poetry Beyond the Packsaddle Bridge was published. She has since published two autobiographical books - Children of the Broad Fields and Riding on The Winds of Time, and a novella Danny the Irish Cowboy. She served as the Secretary, Photographer, Vice-President, and President of Gray County Genealogical Society. She has also served as the Vice Regent, Historian, Librarian, Photographer, Public Relations, Radio, and Television for the Las Pampas Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as the Regent for the Chapter for the last seven years.
The Lewises own the Gores-Lewis Ranch in Carson County that was established in 1916 by John and Emma Gores and were honored in 2017 with the Family Land Heritage Certificate of Honor for a Hundred Years presented by Sid Miller the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture in Austin.
The Lewises have two children, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great-granddaughters. Daughter Tonya Lewis of Pampa; son Brenton Lewis of Ingleside, Texas; grandson Lance Burton, wife Angela, and great-granddaughter Madison of Bakersfield, Ca.; grandson Luke Burton and wife Manijeh of Lubbock; granddaughter Christina Pawley, husband Travis, and great granddaughters Maya, Lucy, Clara, Avery and Selah of Kearney, Neb.; grandson Blake Lewis, wife Justine, and great granddaughters, Ariya and Valerie, Lincoln, Nebraska; granddaughter Katherine Lewis of Aurora, Colorado.
