Darrell Dwayne (Tater-Tot) Baston passed away January 15, 2023, in Lubbock, TX. He was born August 28, 1960, to Harold Gene, Sr. and Elizabeth Earlene (Dick) Baston, in Pampa, TX. Darrell attended Pampa High School and went on to become a skilled heavy equipment operator, working in the oil fields.

Tater-Tot grew up in Pampa and was always adventurous, enjoyed riding dirt-bikes, and hanging out with his brother. He enjoyed all things rock-n-roll, especially listening to Led Zeppelin; having seen him in person. Darrell decided to leave high school a little early, to work as a heavy machinery operator in the oil fields, specializing in track-hoe operating and ditch digging on the pipeline. He helped lay many of the major pipelines throughout the United States.

Tater-Tot decided to retire in Lubbock, in 2015, so he could be closer to his children, grandchildren, and his grand-dogs. Recently, he was diagnosed with cancer; he battled with all his might, but now he is fully healed, free from pain, and enjoying life with his Lord.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Sr. and Elizabeth, a brother, Harold Jr., his grandparents, and one grand-dog, Boss. Those remaining to cherish his memories are his daughter Sarah Baston, his son, Anthony Baston, a niece, Miranda Michener and her son, seven grandchildren, one grand-dog, and special family and friends.

The family of Darrell “Tater-Tot” Baston would like to extend a special “Thank You” to traditions Hospice, of Lubbock, and to Stacy Reed.

In lieu of flowers, please donate, in honor of Tater-Tot, to Traditions Hospice, nhpco.org, where you can give donations on their website. Arrangements were entrusted to Combest Funeral Homes, Lubbock.
