Doris Young, 90, of Pampa, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024 in Pampa.

Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, March 1, 2024 at First Baptist Church with Rev. James Greer and Rev. Zackary Greer officiating. 

Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Doris was born October 10, 1933 in Eldorado, Oklahoma to Orville and Myrtle Coble. 

She graduated from Gould High School in 1950. 

On December 21, 1950, she married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” L. Young in Bethel Baptist Church in Harmon County, Oklahoma. 

They were married just shy of 71 years before he passed away on October 11, 2021. 

Doris and Bob moved to Pampa in 1952. 

She was a legal secretary for over 35 years, working for Cree Oil Company, County Judge Carl Kennedy, and numerous attorneys in Pampa. 

Doris and Bob had a great partnership in building custom homes in Pampa. With her architectural ability to design and draw up blueprints she was an integral part of the business. 

Doris would help oversee the construction and even handle the sale of the homes. They loved working together.

Doris was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she continued to serve faithfully. 

Singing was her passion, whether it would be singing at various church events, nursing home ministries, or at jam sessions down in the valley. Doris had a love for old gospel music and hymns. 

She enjoyed sewing and bible studies. Doris loved the Word of God and her Lord and Savior, and it was obvious of how she lived her life. 

Loving her friends and family and serving them to the best of her ability.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six siblings; a grandchild; a step grandchild; and two great grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Melinda Ann Jenkins, and Belinda Jan Hucks and husband Kevin, all of Pampa; one son, David Michael Young and wife Linda of Donna; sister, Geraldine Loving of Hollis, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Justin Young and wife Kasha, Jeffrey Jenkins and wife April, Cody Jenkins and wife Roxanne, all of Amarillo, Andrea Greigo of Plainview, Misty French of McKinney and Julie Arbeau and husband Donnie of Lake Wales, Florida; two step grandchildren, Hunter Hucks and fiancée Emily Licklider of Pampa and Heather Fuller and husband Tell of Amarillo; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
