Dorothy D. Barrett, 91, of Pampa, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 in Pampa.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. A private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Dorothy was born July 25, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio to Bill and Helen Dixon. Her family moved to Pampa in 1933 and she graduated from Pampa High School in 1950. After high school, she attended nursing school in Oklahoma City and graduated in 1953. On December 16, 1950, she married Raymond Barrett in Pampa. They celebrated 70 years of marriage before he passed away in 2020. Dorothy was a nurse and worked for several entities including working as a school nurse. After she retired, she volunteered for Crisis Pregnancy Center, which later became Pregnancy Support Center & Hope. It was dear to her heart, as she spent many years doing sonograms. Dorothy was a longtime faithful member at First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also was involved and enjoyed doing Prison Ministry. Her hobbies included reading and doing Bible studies. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margery Salmon; brother, William “Bill” Dixon; her daughter, Leigh Barrett Anderson; and a grandson, Jarod Allen Barrett.

Survivors include her son, David “Hondo” Barrett of Pampa; 2 daughters, Susie Birtell and husband Don of Borger and Becky McGaughy and husband Tim of Amarillo; son-in-law, David Anderson of Pleasanton; 10 grandchildren, Emily Anguiano and husband Michael of Pampa, Dawna Irving and husband Josh of Amarillo, Dayna Huffington and husband Mark of Abilene, Aaron Birtell and wife Perla of Owasso, Oklahoma, Megan Campbell and husband Aris of Naselle, Washington, David McGaughy and wife Melissa of Boise City, Oklahoma, Mekala McGaughy and friend Michael Brown of Gig Harbor, Washington, John McGaughy of Pflugerville, Dane Anderson and wife Amber of Pleasanton, and Brian Anderson and wife Lacey of Pleasanton and 21 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers for their love and care they showed Dorothy which include Maria Copado, Karla Salcido, Daisy Portillo, and Trina Allen.
