Eska Lawrence Miller, age 91, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in Plano, Texas. He was born on June 8, 1931 in Bray, Oklahoma to the late James McKortus and Pearl (Boles) Miller. Eska served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Tennessee, Casablanca and Houston for 4 years. He worked for IRI International (formerly Cabot Machinery Division) as a machinist and retired after 38 years as a routing technician.

Eska loved his golfing and fishing and was the first pitcher for the American Legion Baseball Team in Marlow, Oklahoma. He coached and umpired baseball games for the Pampa Optimist Club for 10 years but his claim to fame is that he went viral on the internet as “The Running Grandpa.” Most of all, he loved his grandchildren. Eska was a member of the Twin Creeks Church of Christ in Allen, Texas and was always a very active member of any church he attended.

Eska is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dee Miller of McKinney, Texas; 2 sons, Eska Miller, Jr. and wife, Cheryl of Plano, Texas and James Miller of Ft. Worth, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Leska Miller, Haley Gamez and husband, Danie, Michelle Purgerson and husband, Scott and Eska Miller, III; 3 great grandchildren, Noah, Denver, and Danelle Gamez; sister, Daphene Woods of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Onadell Seymour.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Memory Gardens of Pampa Cemetery in Pampa, Texas with Jerry King officiating.
