Food Truck Challenge

The second annual ‘Food Truck Challenge’ for Pampa United Way is happening this Saturday, May 20th. The event will take place at Central Park with vendors and food trucks set up for attendees. In addition to those, there will be games and events for everyone to take part in, and a cornhole tournament.

“We have our hamster ball, it’s a massive blow up that you climb into and run around,” Director, Jana Gregory said. “We’ll also have our zorb balls, you climb into those and run into each other. All the events are for all ages. The food trucks will have a $3 sampler for people to get so there’s something for everyone. We’re hoping we don’t get rained out because it’s always a lot of fun for everyone that comes out.”

This event is the second fund raiser that Pampa United Way hosts to raise money for the agencies they donate money to.

“We wanted to do something fun to help raise money for our 11 agencies,” Gregory said. “No one did a food truck challenge were you can come eat and play games, so we thought it would be perfect. It’s very kid friendly and free admission so you don’t have to spend any money.”

There will be eight vendors selling and four food trucks present. The vendors vary from local vendors to surrounding area vendors. Roll the Dice will be one of the food trucks in attendance, along with Stix.

Pampa United Way will also host it’s kick off event in August at Pampa H20, the event again is free and allows people to come out and learn what United Way is all about and the agencies they help. The food truck challenge is the second fund raiser for United Way, followed by their annual ‘Dine United’ event that takes place in October.

“Dine United is always so fun,” Gregory said. “We always have entertainment, this years will be the same magician we had from last year, but this year he will have someone with him. It’s always something we look forward to, and tickets are available from our office.”

Dine United will be selling tickets until the event, tickets are available at 801 N. Sumner or by contacting them at (806)669-1001. Tickets for the drawing of a trip to either Key West or Nashville will be drawn October 14th, the night of Dine United.

Pampa United Way is a non-profit that has been in Pampa since the 1930’s and raises money to give to other non-profits.

“The goal of United Way from the beginning has been to raise money through fund raisers, to give back to other non-profits,” Gregory said. “We have 11 agencies in Gray County that we give out donations to. Our goal every year is to raise $100,000 to be given to the agencies.”

Every dollar raised stays in Gray County. Only 1% of what is raised goes to United Way and Texas United Way, everything else remains in helping out agencies in Pampa, Lefors and McLean.

“The 11 agencies benefit from the work we do,” Gregory said. “There are a couple of agencies that solely rely on our donations to keep going. Our goal and mission every year is to do our part to keep these other non-profits doing what they do.”

The ‘Food Truck Challenge’ will be in Central Park, Saturday May 20th. Beginning at 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. For more information, contact Pampa United Way or visit their Facebook page.
