Born in Canadian to Frank M. Chambers and Gwen Chambers on August 17, 1930, Frances was a 1948 graduate of Canadian High School. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, before transferring to the University of Oklahoma, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1952.

Frances returned to the Panhandle when she married C. Warren Fatheree of Pampa. She taught elementary school in Pampa before giving birth to a daughter, Susan, and son, James.

While raising her children Frances began her life-long work with the Republican Party. She served as State Committeewoman representing the Panhandle in the early ‘60s and was a Delegate for Barry Goldwater to the 1964 Convention in San Francisco. She continued as a volunteer on various state-wide and national GOP campaigns into the 1990s.

In addition to teaching, Frances was a partner in an Austin-based chain of clothing stores, worked in health care services, and was part owner of a motel in Cody, Wyoming, later in life.

She lived in Ft. Worth, Graham, and Lakeway, Texas, Chevy Chase and Bethesda, Maryland, and Cody, Wyoming before moving to Flagstaff, Arizona. Over the past 20 years she lived in Flagstaff, Sedona, and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Throughout her adult life she enjoyed traveling around the world and across the United States. She also enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and socializing with the many friends she made in Arizona and Austin, and her life-long friends from Canadian and Pampa.

Her marriages to Warren Fatheree and Donald Cody ended in divorce. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joan Chambers Novak, and brother John Chambers.
