Glenn was born on January 29, 1939, in Alanreed, Texas, to George W. and Edith Marie (Dudley) Elms. He was the youngest of six children until the arrival of his baby sister. Glenn attended elementary and junior high school in Lefors. After completing the eighth grade, he and his family moved to Pampa, where he entered the workforce at a young age.

In 1957, Glenn proudly joined the United States Air Force and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1968. During his military service, he was stationed at the Amarillo Air Force Base, at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, as well Fort Charleston in South Carolina.

Following his military career, Glenn put his mechanical talents to work as an aircraft mechanic. He worked for Hughes Aircraft Las Vegas, Lockheed in California, E-Systems in Greenville, Texas, contributing to numerous aviation projects throughout his career. Among his proud accomplishments were working on the aircraft of the King of Jordan and even Air Force One. Never one to stay idle, Glenn would occasionally trade aviation work for life on the road, driving trucks and transporting agricultural commodities across the country.

Glenn lived an adventurous and independent life, residing in Texas, California, and Las Vegas over the years. He was married and had six children. In his spare time, he enjoyed firearms and target shooting, often sharing that passion with his children by taking them to the shooting range and teaching them gun safety and marksmanship. Later in life he earned his personal pilots license and enjoyed flying his own plane.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Timothy Glenn Elms; brothers, Richard Frank Elms and Charles Owen Elms; and sisters, Bobbie Louis Phillips and Georgia Mae Marshall.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Geralyn; his sons, Glenn Edwin Elms, Jr., Alan Elms, and Michael;  daughters, Susan Marie Elms, Mona Gay Elms, and Melinda Rapp; sister, Janis Marie Elms;  ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
