The Gray County Commissioners met on Wednesday morning for a regularly-scheduled meeting. Commissioner Lake Arrington was absent for the meeting.

The Commissioners approved a request from Lefors Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of a 1990 BMYH Truck, with a 2,000-gallon tank for $22,000 from American Recovery Plan Act funds.

“This is a truck that the chief found,” David Sims, of LVFD, said. “The truck is in mechanically sound condition. It is equipped with a radio and a $2,000 tank. Included in there is an invoice from a Chad Nickelblack, who just rebuilt the injection pump.

“The truck has some new suspension parts and new brake parts. I don’t think we’d be able to find a better deal for a better price.”

The Commissioners also “gave their blessing” for Gray County Sheriff’s Office to purchase another K-9 unit to go alongside Deputy Chief J.C. Skinner and Rambo. The new K-9 unit will work with Deputy Kyle Basden.

“Franklin (McDonough, District Attorney) has offered to pay everything,” Skinner said. “My dad (Jim Skinner, currently the other K-9 unit) is looking at retiring so we will be losing a dog there. Rambo, my dog, has broken three of his canines and won’t be able to be a ‘bite’ dog anymore. But, he is still good enough and young enough to be a drug dog.”

Skinner said the new dog Basden will work with will be trained to function with patrols, integrate with the SWAT team and in narcotics.

“We have everything covered,” Skinner said. “It doesn’t change anything on our vehicles or our budget.”

The Commissioners approved for GCSO to go out for this new K-9.

The Commissioners approved for Perry Lefors Airport to go out for bids for Main Hangar Roof and Terminal Roof Replacement or Repair and County Owned Residence for potential replacement (Commissioners request shingle or metal roof).
