Harvesters Go 2-2 in New Home Tournament

The Hustlin’ Harvesters competed in the New Home Tournament over the weekend.

The host team beat the Harvesters 61-46 but the Harvesters bounced back with a 69-21 win over Abernathy, followed by a loss to Lubbock Christian 50-41 and then rounding out the tournament with a win over Wall 59-36.

Both Abernathy and Wall are ranked in the Top 20 in their respective classifications.

While Barker is pleased with the wins, Barker said perimeter and free-throw shooting are the points of emphasis for the Harvesters this week.

“We didn’t shoot it very well from the perimeter or the free throw line at the tournament,” Barker said. “We need to really improve our free throw shooting before District starts next week.”

Senior Julian Alonzo and Junior Trill Young had strong outings during the tournament.

”Julian Alonzo led us in scoring and rebounding over the weekend,” Barker said.

“Trill Young also had some very good games coming off the bench. He had 16 points against Wall, so that was a good spark off the bench.”

The Harvesters travel to Bushland tomorrow for a showdown against the Falcons before heading to Childress for a tournament this weekend. While there isn’t a lot of film on Bushland with the Falcons finishing football in the last month, Barker knows it’ll be a tough task for the Harvesters.

“Bushland is always a very tough team,” Barker said. “They will play great defense, and have some good shooters.”
