Jackie Nolan Woods, 73, of Skellytown, Texas, joined his beloved Nay Nay in Heaven on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in Amarillo surrounded by his family at his bedside.
He was born on September 18, 1950, in Borger, Texas to Albert and Charlene Woods.
Jackie grew up in Borger and enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served in the Vietnam War during 1969 and 1970. Unfortunately, he was hit by enemy fire and not only received a Purple Heart, but forever wore scars or “badges of honor” and carried pieces of shrapnel buried within his flesh.
Jackie never regretted his service and even though he didn’t graduate from high school, he often stated he graduated from the school of hard knocks!
After returning home, Jackie began his career in the oilfield. Throughout his years, he had worked for numerous oilfield companies such as Haliburton, Serfco, American Energy, B&C Well Service, and BJ Chemical.
He married the love of his life, Geneva, in 1975 and together they conquered whatever obstacles lay ahead.
When given the opportunity to travel with his job, they embraced it, moving to Scotland and traveling wherever it may have led them.
With candy always at the ready, he became “Uncle Candy Man” to many of the kids. Jackie was a big kid at heart, so he loved to spend time with his grandkids and family. He was an instigator and took to egging on the kids as much as possible. Many times, a child went home to mom with sharpie or pen drawn mustaches, eyeglasses, watches, jewelry, etc. that Jackie had artistically freehanded on them!
Jackie was obsessed with wrestling, enjoyed fishing (even though he wasn’t any good at it), and was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. Very rarely did you see him that he wasn’t wearing some sort of Cowboys gear.
However, more than anything else, Jackie loved his family. His persistent orneriness, nicknames and laughter will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Those who eagerly awaited his arrival into Heaven were his parents; a son, Samuel Benjamin Woods II; brother, Samuel Woods; nephew, Samuel Benjamin Woods III; niece, Carla Jo Newman; sisters-in-law, Brenda Newman, April Annis; brothers-in-law, Billy Jack Annis, Dewayne Short.
Jackie is survived by four daughters, Angel Woods and Michael Kettler of Waco, Charra Woods and Josh of Skellytown, Krystal Woods of Pampa, Jacklyn Woods and Fabian of Memphis; bonus daughter, Brandi Soliz of Pampa; bonus son, Edward Hernandez and Sylvia of Pampa; brother, Donnie Woods and Jan of Skellytown; brothers-in-law, Norman Newman of Pampa, Troy Brown of Grapevine, Jack Toney of Hennessey, OK; sisters- in-law, Debra Short of Borger, Brenda Phares and Maple of Enid, OK, Rachel Brown of Pampa; eight grandchildren, Ysenia, Edward, Zariah, Matthew, Nehemiah, Silas, Bentleigh, Jon; three great-grandchildren and a grand pup, Chief and a passel of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family that Jackie loved.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Thursday, May 9 th at Winegeart Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Friday, May 10, 2024, at Highland Park Cemetery, Borger, Texas with Brother Jim Sinyard officiating.
