James Ray Carter, 74, of Lefors, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 in Pampa.

Celebration of life services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Minister James Gee, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

James Ray Carter was born on May 17, 1947 in Lefors to Eldon and Velma Herd Carter. He grew up in Lefors and was a 1965 graduate of Lefors High School. After graduation, Ray enlisted in the United States Navy. He was in communications at the Naval Support Activity Saigon during the Vietnam War. When Ray came home, he moved to San Diego to pursue his passion with interior design. He made a name for himself window dressing many high-end stores. This led to free-lance interior design opportunities within the community. In 1996, he returned to Lefors to take care of his mom after his father’s passing. Ray loved reading, bird watching, and spending time with friends. Ray had a close circle of friends who he loved dearly. His life was prosperous because of those people.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joe Carter; and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his niece, Bricca Carter; nephew, Macsen Carter; great-niece, Alesabet Haxby and husband Trenton; great-great niece, Elena Haxby; great-great nephew, Maxwell Haxby.
