Johnny Dewayne Smith, 77, of Pampa, Texas, passed away peacefully with his devoted wife by his side on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Born on November 10, 1947, in Wichita Falls, Texas to John and Anna Mae Smith, Johnny lived a life full of adventure and service.
He attended Perryton schools before joining the US Army during the Vietnam War. For over 40 years, Johnny dedicated himself to the oilfield industry as a water hauler, with the last 17 years spent at Wright Trucking. Upon retirement, Johnny continued to stay active by working part-time at Wal-Mart, first as a cart associate and then as a door greeter, where his cheerful personality and sense of humor brightened many customers’ days.
Johnny’s passions included collecting knives, coffee mugs, and caps. He loved fishing, playing his guitar, listening to music, and dancing. Known for his jovial spirit and playful nature, Johnny was always ready with a joke or a surprise, keeping those around him entertained and on their toes.
A loving father, Johnny, cherished his children, especially his daughters, to whom he often wrote heartfelt letters expressing his pride and love. On February 23, 2003, Johnny married Linda Phillips in Perryton, blending their families seamlessly. Linda remained a steadfast companion and caregiver until Johnny’s passing.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Bocox.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Smith of Pampa; sons, Shane Smith of Austin, Johnny Dewayne Smith Jr. of Follett, and Michael Smith of El Paso; daughters, Amanda Smith of Spearman and Erica Silvia of Colorado; brother, Eual Dorman “Sonny” Smith of Perryton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many extended family members who will miss him dearly.
In accordance with Johnny’s wishes, there will be no formal services. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
