CANYON - The Pampa Lady Harvesters (5-10, 0-2) fell to the West Plains Lady Wolves 64-41 on Friday as they continued District play.
Head Coach Clint Watson said the rebounding and pressure from the Lady Wolves was the primary difference in the game.
“West Plains outrebounded us and their pressure just affected us the whole night,” Watson said. “They jumped out to an early lead and we weren’t ever able to cut the deficit any.”
While it’s never ideal to start 0-2 in District play, there is plenty of District basketball left to be played and Watson said the Lady Harvesters are not losing their confidence.
“0-2 isn’t where we want to be, but we played two of the toughest teams in our league,” Watson said. “It’s still early, with time to bounce back. Within every game, there are always positives. So I try and find a few things that I thought we did well.
“I felt like we had a good practice this morning. The girls were locked in and ready to get back to work and prepare for Borger Tuesday. They are a pretty resilient group, we try not to stay too low for too long.”
The Lady Harvesters were led in scoring by the 1-2 punch of Senior Cambree Dyer, with 14 points off four threes and Senior Berlin Bartlett, who had 12 points off a three and went 3-6 in free throws. Freshman Emmy Boutsamaly also had six points going 2-4 in free throws; Senior Briley Daniels had five points went 3-6 from the stripe; Junior Heiley Guerra had three points off a trey and Sophomore Kenna Kotara had two points.
“They are leaders, the whole group feeds off of the energy and play of those two, along with Briley (Daniels),” Watson said.
“Berlin is lightening quick with the ball. She’s also a relentless attacker. So when she gets going, it opens up outside shots for others, including Cambree who had four threes Friday. Cam is as good of a shooter as I’ve ever coached. She doesn’t need much room to get her shot off.”
The Lady Harvesters return to action Tuesday when they continue District play against their rival Borger Lady Bulldogs. Game time is at 6 p.m. at McNeely Fieldhouse here in Pampa.
“Rivalry games are always fun and interesting,” Watson said. “It’ll be good to get this one at home. We are trying to treat this like any other game. Focus on correct rotations and pushing the ball down the court.
“They have a guard who is quick and let the shot fly from any where on the court. They also have a strong post player inside. We are going to try and make them work and attack them on defense. When Borger shoots, we have to block out the post player inside. Limiting them to one shot will be huge for us!”
