DUMAS - The Pampa Lady Harvesters (8-12, 3-4) finished their first round of District play with a win on Saturday afternoon when they knocked off the Dumas Demonettes.

The win came at the right time as the Lady Harvesters are still playing for the playoffs.

“It definitely was a must-win game for us,” Head Coach Clint Watson said. “Dumas is a tough place to play. I feel like that is one of the loudest gyms in our district. It keeps us in the hunt for the fourth seed in the district.”

Senior Berlin Bartlett had 16 points with one three and went 3-6 from the free throw line; Senior Cambree Dyer had eight points with a three; Senior Briley Daniels had eight points with two threes; sophomore Kenna Kotara had six points; Freshman Brooklyn Warren had three points with a three; Junior Heiley Guerra had two points and Freshman Emmy Boutsamaly went 2-2 in free throws for two points.

“We try to spread the court and the ball,” Watson said. “We try to run a team-oriented offense. We try to move the ball side to side and then attack downhill when the time is right. We have plenty of good shooters. [Kenna] Kotara is a really good shooter. She is always ready to shoot the ball as soon as she steps onto the court. When we spread the wealth, we are a tough team.”

The Lady Harvesters returned to action on Tuesday when they traveled to Canyon to start the next round of District play.

“Starting Round two of district play will be tough,” Watson said. “Three of our next four games will be on the road, including a huge road game next Tuesday at Hereford. We played well against Canyon at home to open the district. Even though we lost that game by 14, there were plenty of positives. Outside of missing a few open shots in the second quarter, we went toe to toe with one of the toughest teams in the state.

“We just can’t leave their shooter. They threw the ball inside a couple of times, and our guards helped off a little too far, and their shooters made us pay. We are going to try and play everyone straight up. We worked on staying in their hip pocket all night.”
