The Pampa Lady Harvesters (17-12, 1-2) earned their first win in District 4-4A after knocking off their rival Borger Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
After trailing 18-12 in the first set, the Lady Harvesters went on a 13-3 run to overwhelm Borger and take the first set en route to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-20) sweep of their Highway 152 rival.
“We talked a lot in practice Monday about keeping our composure and not panicking when things go wrong,” Head Coach Kaylee Samulowitz said. “We were focused on playing with confidence and communicating through the tough moments and I feel like the girls executed that very well.”
Getting a sweep anytime is a great feeling. But getting it over their rival will give the Lady Harvesters the edge they need as they look to Hereford on Saturday.
“Sweeping a rival team is always a great boost of confidence,” Samulowitz said. “I think it was exactly what we needed going into Saturday.”
Junior Karsyn Brown was a big part of the comeback at the end of the first to give the Lady Harvesters momentum for the sweep, tallying two aces and four kills for the match.
“Karsyn is one of the best athletes we have in the entire girls program,” Samulowitz said. “She is a big jumper and brings a lot of power to our offense and is also leading our team in blocks. She has come a long way with her mentality, and I am so proud of the way she has played thus far.”
The Lady Harvesters take the road to the other side of Highway 60 on Saturday as they travel to Hereford to take on the Lady Whitefaces. Game time is set for noon.
“Saturday is a huge game for us,” Samulowitz said. “Hereford swept Dumas on Tuesday night, so that definitely made a statement. We have to take care of our side of the ball and make sure we execute the game plan. This is our chance to make a statement of our own and get our first district road win.”
