Over the weekend, the Pampa Lady Harvesters (6-15, 1-3) took part in the Caprock Tournament in Lubbock. The Lady Harvesters’ went 0-4 in the tournament, but faced some top-level competition, including top college prospect Aaliyah Chavez, to tune up for more District action starting Friday.
“All of the different styles of play will help us,” Head Coach Clint Watson said. “We got better as a team throughout the tournament. We grew as a team.”
The Lady Harvesters fell to Monterrey 89-35, Stephenville 47-33, Lubbock-Cooper 45-39 and El Paso-Chapin 47-44. Despite the losses, Watson was encouraged by what he saw against Chapin and Coronado.
“Even though we lost both games, the games against Coronado and Chapin were good for us,” Watson said. “Our defensive rotations were starting to look better.”
The tournaments continue to be prime opportunities for the young Lady Harvesters on the squad to get valuable reps.
“Emmy Boutsamaly is getting better with every game that she plays,” Watson said. “Sometimes its hard to remember that she is just a freshman. Kenna Kotara is also another one who has been stepping up. They both have the capability to score the ball. But they both do some of the ‘little things’ really well. They dive on the ground for loose balls, block out, and rebound well.”
The Lady Harvesters return action on Friday at Perryton as District play continues on.
“Perryton will be tough,” Watson said. “Its always tough playing in Perryton. They are better than they were last year. We will have to continue to have our defensive rotations move together and battle on the boards.”
